Back to School

Welcome to Singapore Polytechnic, the place where I spent 3 years of my life earning my diploma. ^^;

Oh btw, if anyone looking at the above picture thought I just graduated, I’m not actually. I graduated 5 donkey years ago. (‘~’)

I was an engineering student from the school of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE). Not really a subject I’m particularly interested in but that’s what fate put me into.

……………………………………………………………………

This is T12 where all the laboratories are. Other than circuits and resistors, they do biological experiments, nuclear research and cloning as well.

……………………………………………………………………

This is block T14 where I attended most of my lectures and tutorials. Level 1 is actually the basement, level 2 is the lecture theaters, level 3 is the exhibition room of student’s project works, level 4 to 8 are all computer labs now. During my time there used to be normal classrooms in there but they eventually renovated it to PC labs.

Btw, there’s no block 13 in the campus? Not sure why. Superstitious?

……………………………………………………………………

This is how a lecture theater looks like. This is where I spent of my time sleeping listening to lectures. If the class gets too boring, the mates and I will just make our exit and proceed to the nearby gaming café for a game of counter-strike. Those were the good old days. ^^;

……………………………………………………………………

There used to be a big lecture theater here, now all that is left of it is an empty plot of land and a staircase leading to nowhere.

……………………………………………………………………

A train station is just outside the school. The design is very nice, one of the best looking in Singapore. During my first year, it was still been built.

……………………………………………………………………

This used to be my favourite hangout in campus, The Self Access Learning Centre (SALC), a place when you can use the Internet and download stuffs that you shouldn’t be downloading in school. When I was a student, I didn’t have broadband at home so I do all my Internet surfing at school. They should really get someone to change the sign, looks shabby.

This machine on the right is where you scan your student pass and book a station. Once your time is up, it will automatically log you out. If you don’t leave, security will arrive and throw you out.

……………………………………………………………………

This is Food Court 4, one of my favourite eating-places in school. Too bad the place is closed as I went on a weekend.

……………………………………………………………………

Yummy Singapore food on the wall.

……………………………………………………………………

This is Food Court 5 where we have KFC and Pizza Hut. Seldom eat here as it’s usually crowded with people.

……………………………………………………………………

We even have our own bakery and 7-eleven. Not sure whether the 7-eleven opens 24 hours though.

……………………………………………………………………

Food Court 3 is another frequently visited canteen. It doesn’t look this nice before they renovated the place.

……………………………………………………………………

We have McDonald’s as well. Seldom eat here as well as it is too far from my school.

……………………………………………………………………

Final thoughts
It had been 5 years since I graduated and much in the school has changed since I left. New building were built, old buildings got torn down. Looking back I enjoyed my 3 years in Singapore Poly. My grades weren’t that great, I’m pretty much an average person. I particularly enjoyed my third year and doing my gradation project with a friend. We got an ‘A’ and I’m real proud of it. ^^;

One of the things I also noticed is that it seems most students own a laptop now. I saw many people using it in the food court and study areas. During my time not many uses laptop in campus as there wasn’t any wireless Internet back then.

    Looks like a pleasant place. I have no idea what colleges look like in Malaysia, but I suspect them to be quite bad compared with yours.. ;;>_>

  2. double says:

    Congrats on graduating. Aiya, you should have told me you were in school today. I could have met up with you for a short while.

  3. gordon says:

    Mizunaga,
    from your blog posts u are already working right? u mean u never attend college?

    double,
    i graduated 5 years ago. these pics were taken last saturday so i doubt u are in school. anyway is it ok to know which school/dept u are u? its ok if u don’t tell. i understand.

  4. Hynavian says:

    Food! Food! There’s so many canteens and food stalls around. Have you tried out all their food there? ^.^

  5. k says:

    great food court! the cafeteria food at my school sucks ^^ btw, is it just me or do most figure/gundam fans turn out to be engineers?

  6. puppy52doll says:

    heh Bang Deli?!

  7. Fariz Asuka says:

    Hmm, you should have come to Singapore Polytechnic during the weekdays because you can try out all the delicious foods in foodcourt 4.. ^^

    Anyway, I heard that the already torn-down lecture theater is haunted.. Izit true??

    BTW, we are currently making Kira Yamato in T12.. XD

  8. gordon says:

    Hynavian,
    no sadly. they are all closed. 😦

    k,
    i think it’s the opposite. engineers turns out to become figure/gundam collectors. lol.

    chun,
    anything wrong?

    Fariz Asuka,
    u are in SP too? same school/dept? ^^;

  9. double says:

    Argh, I totally missed the part where you wrote that you graduated 5 years ago. I failz!

    Anyway, I’m in School of Media and Information Technology. It’s currently named as School of Digital Media and Infocomm.

  10. Kawasumi Hirito says:

    Cool, didn’t know you were from SP. I graduated from there 2 years ago, but was in MM. Seeing those pictures + listening to Sakura no Ame in the background brings back memories.

    I usually never attend lectures, since I was too tired to wake up early in the morning to attend them (late night WoW raiding), had friends who helped me sign the attendance list though. Best record I think was attending only 2 class out of a possible 26? I still got a A though LOL.

  11. puppy52doll says:

    nothing wrong except mind in gutter LOL tsktsk

  12. Fariz Asuka says:

    @ gordon: I’m also from School of EEE.. Haha.. I’m the last battalion of the Diploma in Computer Networking course.. ^^

  13. Random Misconception says:

    OMG a McDonald’s.

    How I wish Ngee Ann had that, I’ve got one measly canteen near my faculty and it’s rather…lacking…in terms of food.

    Still, at the very least, I’m in a rather fun course, Mass Communication, I just hope I can get a A for MY final year project when it comes ’round…like…in 2 years.

  14. gordon says:

    double,
    that’s ok. the first pic can be misleading so i added the graduated 5 years line in paragraph one.

    hirito,
    attend only 2 class out of a possible 26 and still got A? oh my, u must be very smart! ^^

    Fariz Asuka,
    my fellow EEE junior. do help me check whether the cowboy lecturer is still around? u will know who he is when u see him. ^^;

    Random Misconception,
    mass comm has more girls unlike engineering courses. orz

  15. Fariz Asuka says:

    @ gordon: Yes senior, the cowboy lecturer is still alive and kicking..

    My friend still get to tease him by making the “Yeehaw” sound when my friend spotted him.. XD

  16. sk-殿 says:

    wow, public universities here in Malaysia are NOWHERE near where yours have gone. I tried to apply for NTU admission 2008-09 but failed… forgot to fax my STPM(kinda like A-levels) results! ^^;;

  17. gordon says:

    sk-殿,
    do try again! will be great if u can come sg to study. the otaku/anime blogger community here is very happening. ^^;

  18. sk-殿 says:

    I don’t think I will, since I’m currently waiting for my local university posting date. But I would really love to settle down in Singapore after I have graduated though.

  19. wongtcsg says:

    Yo, gordon.

    I grad from SP 3 years ago.
    From school of EEE.

    Study days the best, i treasure it.

  20. gordon says:

    sk-殿,
    i wish u all the best then. which module are u applying for?

    wongtcsg,
    another fellow SP alumni. which course did u applied for in your 3rd year?

  21. Hangmen says:

    Where’s the Umbrella Corporation sponsored Diploma/Degree in Biological Weapons Research?

  22. grahf23 says:

    hey i grad from sp business side 5 yrs ago too!! think we should b ard the same age eh..

  23. gordon says:

    Hangmen,
    the course stopped last year. apparently it seems like they are running out of places to lock up the er.. failed subjects.

    grahf23,
    hi nice to meet u. only been to your school a couple of times. ^^;

  24. grahf12 says:

    heard there a gunpla alumni at sp issit??

  25. gordon says:

    grahf12,
    not sure about it. i wasn’t an otaku when i was still in school. ^^;
